Taking care of your Pottery

Traditional terra cotta/clay ceramic from Ptomaine, Chile must be hydrated before use to prevent future breakage. In the past, people of Chile used natural milk to boil inside the pot to seal its porous walls with oils and fats. Today, butter or margarine is used to spread across the interior of each piece. Then a small amount of boiling water is poured inside of the pot and allowed to melt the butter or margarine while pot is placed over low heat. Once melted, the pot can be washed with lukewarm water and is ready for use

Do not leave any liquids inside of any clay product for more than 12 hours.

Terra cotta ceramics are a delicate product and should only be washed by hand.

Use only a small amount of dish soap when washing.

Metal brushes or steel wool sponges can damage the inner walls of the product.

Once used, the product should be cleaned immediately and left to dry. Do not leave it wet or immersed in water for prolonged periods

To prolong the life of the product, do not place it on direct fire (gas stoves are fine).

Pomaire pottery can withstand heat up to 400 degrees Celsius and can be used on the BBQ, in the oven, or stovetop.
